Author
Usama writes the Calori guides on calories, nutrition and weight loss. Every figure is checked against UK food data, NHS guidance and published research, which are listed at the end of each page.
Why Calori exists
Most people who try to count calories stop within a couple of weeks. Not because they lack willpower, but because searching for every ingredient and guessing the grams is tedious. Calori started with one question: what if logging a meal took a photo instead of five minutes?
A camera can recognise food, but it cannot weigh it. That is why we are also building the Calori Scale, a kitchen scale that weighs up to four foods on one plate in a single scan.
How we write our guides
Every guide, calculator and calorie count on this site is written by Usama Irfan. Calorie and nutrient figures come from the UK government's Composition of Foods dataset (CoFID), USDA FoodData Central and food labels. Advice on weight and diet follows NHS guidance, and each page lists its sources.
Calori is our product, so where a guide compares apps we say so, and we point out where another app may suit you better. If you spot a mistake, tell us and we will fix it.
Our guides are general information, not medical advice. If you have a health condition, are pregnant or have a history of disordered eating, speak to your GP or a registered dietitian before changing how you eat.
