Is Guinness fattening?
Guinness has a reputation as a heavy, filling drink, but its calories are similar to a standard 4% lager (about 180 to 200 kcal a pint) and lower than a 5% premium lager (225 to 250). The dark colour comes from roasted barley, not extra sugar or fat.
Where the calories come from
Most of the calories in Guinness come from alcohol, which has 7 kcal per gram. A pint of 4.2% beer contains about 19 g of alcohol, roughly 130 kcal, with the rest from carbohydrate.
Fitting it into a calorie deficit
Two pints is around 420 kcal, about the same as a meal. Plan for it in your weekly total, and watch out for the snacks and late-night food that often come with a night out.
